This mural is part of the Ultra Rare Creative Placemaking Lab (2014), curated by Vanessa Nicholas and myself. Ultra Rare was an initiative that sought to energize a stretch Toronto’s McCaul Street. Ultra Rare included a collaborative mural, replanting a flower boxes along the street, reinvented an abandoned parking lot tollbooth and a block party, each of which have required cooperation and support from a range of partners, including administrators, building developers, property managers and private businesses. Vanessa and I worked with six other artists on this mural. Ultra Rare models how civic stakeholders can empower artists to enhance public space and nurture community values in urban areas.
